Student Visa New Zealand

If you wish to study and work in Auckland, a student visa is an essential requirement.  An application for a student visa is lodged with the New Zealand Department of Labour.  The Department of Labour has offices all around the world.  You will be charged a non-refundable application fee.

Visa applications will only be considered if the student is already enrolled in full time study and can provide evidence of their ability to support themselves.  You will also need:

  • A recent, passport sized photograph
  • A return air ticket, or evidence of funds to purchase one
  • Receipt of payment of university fees (or, in the case of scholarship students, proof of exemption of fees) and
  • Details of your accommodation (if you’re staying on campus or with a home stay family your university can provide this; otherwise, a copy of your lease is sufficient).

Depending on the length of your stay, your country of origin and if you have visited any other countries recently, you may also be subject to a police check and medical examination, or need to provide a medical certificate and X-ray.

Visitors on a student visa can work for up to 20 hours during university hours and full time during the holidays.
